Fort Caligo

Yass!! Finally managed to make something environment related for my new HARPG "stable"...well, it´s gonna be a fort, along with a small town at the bottom but yay! (and in case you missed it, yes, my HARPG is very much an AU world, where take a lot of freedom with historical references and geography^_^) 

Caligo is an old stronghold build on the mountain bordering towards Russia.The fortress have belonged to many different conquerors during the history, and is said to first have been constructed by the Romans, judging by it´s architecture. Situated right on top an active mountain, hot springs provide a natural heating system, keeping the ever persistent cold at bay, and a never ending supply of hot water, as well as casting the fort in a tick misty fog. A vast frozen lake stretches out to the sloping side of the fort, a narrow mountain pass the only entrance to cross in from the tundra of Russia.

At the base of the large maze like stronghold an even older village spreads out, the locals using the hot springs and soil around them to grow though wheat and crops, as well as keeping their sturdy goat-like ponies fed ad watered, the water of the springs containing important minerals and attracting wildlife to be hunted. The villagers keep to themselves, friendly and hospitable to wanderers, but not getting themselves dragged into what new war the king of the north will surely be starting. The increase in soldiers arriving at the fort for cavalry training have meant an increase of trading, as well as selling clothes, food and scouting information, and the villagers are seeing their most prosperous year since generations back. Yet, the looming war structure is only visited as briefly as possible, and lately there have been an eerie rumor spreading, of monsters from the old days, blood sacrifices to the norse gods out in the deep pine forests, men going missing in the dark of winter when the sun barely comes up, and even the bravest stays behind locked doors once the light fades.
